Fast forward 9 months and so much has changed, both in our kitchen and in life. We celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary, our sweet girl’s first birthday (I don’t know how that is even possible), I dropped to working part-time at my job (that was a fiasco in itself, more on that later), bought a new washer and dryer, found out we were expecting baby #2! and almost, yes almost, finished up our kitchen renovation!
When I left off back in June (life happens), we were just getting ready to demo the wall that stood between us and our open concept-ish kitchen. I am happy to report that the wall is down and we love the openness it has brought to our home.
Here is a before picture to remind you of the wall we were eyeing to take down since the moment we bought the house.

Electric had to be moved, the walls and ceiling had to be patched and we had to deal with the holes that were left in the floor. It sounds so much simpler when you type it out. My husband and I were talking the other day and we agreed that we probably shouldn’t have taken on such a huge renovation for our first one, especially now that we had a baby to care for and work the renovation around. Anyway, my husband is pretty incredible and he did it all by himself and I couldn’t be happier, or more proud of him.
Renovations are certainly not glamorous. I almost always had dishes in the sink, everything was misplaced and there was clutter everywhere.

Now the walls were down and holes were patched I may have been jumping the gun a little, but I decided it was time to paint! Finally, something I could do! I went with Benjamin Moore’s Grey Owl. It’s such a pretty color, grey with slight blue undertones.I didn’t hate the green color that was in the kitchen before, but it just didn’t fit in with the rest of my house. Not to mention I now had three colors going on in the new shared space (don’t you love the robin’s egg blue that was hidden behind the cabinets). Chips anyone? Sam's club is our favorite...
Here it is on the walls. Having one paint color on the walls changes everything. So to summarize, we only had left: laying tile floors, installing a pendant light above the sink, converting our current cabinets to more of a shaker style, painting all cabinets, installing a pantry and the old cabinets from over the fridge, figuring out how we could get an IKEA farmhouse sink to work, new countertops, backsplash and building some floating shelves (phew, is that all?!). I’m exhausted just typing that list, thank goodness it’s all behind us now. Stay tuned.
